About The Position

School Facility Management (SFM) provides professional facility management, maintenance, and operational services to institutional, nonprofit, educational, and faith-based organizations. SFM is seeking an experienced, hands-on Facility Manager / Maintenance Technician to oversee and support the day-to-day maintenance and operations of two facilities for one of our Nashville-area institutional clients. This is an independent, hands-on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, performing repairs, managing facility needs, and working directly with a client. The Facility Manager will serve as the primary SFM representative at the assigned account, ensuring the facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained, and responsive to the needs of the client and its occupants. This is not a desk-only management position. The successful candidate will spend significant time performing hands-on maintenance and preventive maintenance while also coordinating vendors, responding to client requests, conducting inspections, and communicating with SFM leadership.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, property maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of general building maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and travel between two facilities during the workday.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic to intermediate computer and mobile technology skills.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical maintenance work

Nice To Haves

  • Facility Manager, Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or similar experience.
  • Experience supporting multiple facilities or occupied institutional/nonprofit facilities.
  • Vendor and contractor coordination experience.
  • Familiarity with CMMS/work-order systems or building automation systems (BAS/BMS).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and facility inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical/lighting, HVAC support, doors and hardware, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general building systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Identify problems proactively and complete or coordinate timely repairs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests, building issues, and emergencies.
  • Maintain safe, clean, functional, and presentable facilities.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance logs, inspection records, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with room setups, events, moves, and other facility needs.
  • Determine when work should be completed internally versus outsourced.
  • Coordinate vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and projects.
  • Meet contractors on-site and monitor work for quality, safety, and completion.
  • Assist with proposals, invoices, service records, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and projects
  • Evaluate when work can be completed internally versus outsourced
  • Ensure vendor work meets SFM standards for quality, safety, and professionalism
  • Track vendor activity, proposals, invoices, and completion of contracted work
  • Conduct safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
  • Follow SFM and client safety procedures.
  • Support OSHA, fire/life safety, and other applicable compliance requirements.
  • Properly use tools, equipment, ladders, PPE, and other maintenance resources.
