About The Position

Facility Energy Technician 3 Oregon Department of Administrative Services Portland, Oregon (NE Portland, Lloyd District) If you’re an experienced HVAC/R professional who enjoys working on large, complex systems, this is your chance to put your skills to work maintaining critical state facilities across the Portland metro area. At DAS, you’ll work on chillers, boilers, data centers, labs, and commercial refrigeration systems that support thousands of employees and the public, all while enjoying stable hours and excellent benefits. What You’ll Do As a Facility Energy Technician 3 , you’ll be the go-to expert for HVAC and refrigeration systems across state-owned and leased buildings in the Portland area. Your work ensures optimal building performance and occupant comfort.

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship program or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating and air-conditioning or refrigeration AND two years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR Four years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification (EPA 40 CFR Part 82)
  • Oregon Restricted Energy Technician License (LEB/LEA) or Limited Maintenance Electrical License (LME)

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on large-scale HVAC systems, including chillers (up to 567 tons), steam boilers (up to 500 HP), pumps, and control valves.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems for data centers, labs, walk-in coolers/freezers, and commercial kitchens.
  • Maintain and calibrate variable frequency drives, pneumatic and DDC control systems, and programmable logic controllers.
  • Fabricate and retrofit HVAC ductwork and components; calculate heat loads and airflow requirements.
  • Oversee and train junior technicians; respond to emergency calls in Portland, Hillsboro, Tigard, and Wilsonville.
