Facility Electrical Engineer

The Timken Company•North Canton, OH

About The Position

This position designs, develops, constructs, and maintains electrical control systems for facility operations and research projects. It helps maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems associated with building automation, lighting, HVAC, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and drives, and integrates basic facility systems into the building automation system. The role also designs, develops, constructs, and maintains electrical control systems for new concepts on research projects and testing systems. Projects are managed from design through construction, installation, and startup. The position works with outside controls contractors on larger systems, leads the computerized lighting and shade control system, supports facility maintenance, and develops electrical controls, PLC logic, and data acquisition schemes for prototype and test machinery. It also prepares budgets and designs for projects under $100,000 with a 12-week project timeframe, collaborates with facility and engineering trades and personnel, analyzes machinery and implements improvements, and keeps up with new electrical, electronic, and microprocessor controls.

Responsibilities

  • Design and construct electrical control circuitry and programming logic to integrate lower-level facility systems into the building automation system, managing projects from design and build through installation and startup.
  • Work with outside controls contractors on larger system implementations to meet project timelines.
  • Act as the facility lead for the computerized lighting and shade control system.
  • Assist the facilities Principal Electrical Analyst with maintenance issues involving motor control centers, substation breakers, the well water system, fire alarm control system, compressed air system, and iron filtration system.
  • Design and construct electrical control circuitry for prototype and test machinery based on customer needs.
  • Design and program PLC logic and data acquisition schemes for prototype and test machinery.
  • Prepare budgets and designs for projects under $100,000 with a 12-week project timeframe.
  • Coordinate with pipe fitters, machinists, sheet metal workers, machine operators, engineers, design technicians, safety inspectors, and others to support efficient and safe machinery construction.
  • Analyze prototype and test machinery using electrical and electronic test equipment and technical documentation to identify improvements or changes needed for precise and efficient operation.
  • Use analysis data to design and implement solutions.
  • Provide and implement solutions to problems arising during the design, instruction, or run-off of test machinery without first consulting the Engineering Department.
  • Stay informed about new electrical, electronic, and microprocessor controls through technical manuals, videos, factory schools, seminars, and collaboration with field service engineers.
