Position Summary Blue Origin is seeking a motivated and skilled Facility Design Mechanical Process Pipe Engineer II to support the design, analysis, and construction of advanced process piping and fluid distribution systems across our aerospace facilities. In this role, you will work alongside senior engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant process systems that enable our mission-critical operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a developing engineer to grow their technical expertise in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in process piping or mechanical systems engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process gas and/or fluid distribution system design, including piping layout, material selection, and system integration
  • Familiarity with piping design codes and standards, including ASME B31.1 and/or B31.3
  • Experience with engineering drawing development including P&IDs, piping isometrics, and general arrangement drawings
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or equivalent
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) / Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification obtained, or commitment to obtaining PE licensure within 1–2 years
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to perform and document engineering calculations
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience with cryogenic fluid systems (e.g., liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen) or other specialty gases
  • Background in aerospace, defense, oil & gas, chemical processing, or industrial facility environments
  • Familiarity with pipe stress analysis software such as CAESAR II or equivalent
  • Experience with HAZOP, P&ID review, or formal process safety review processes
  • Knowledge of NFPA 55 (Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code) or CGA standards
  • Exposure to high-pressure systems design (above 150 psi)
  • Experience with 3D plant design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA, or Bentley OpenPlant
  • Familiarity with construction administration and field support activities
  • Active pursuit of or existing PE licensure

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of process piping systems for gaseous and liquid distribution, including high-pressure, cryogenic, hazardous, and specialty fluid systems
  • Prepare and assist in the development of engineering drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), isometrics, specifications, and design packages
  • Perform engineering calculations related to pipe sizing, pressure drop, fluid flow, stress analysis, and system performance
  • Assist in the development and review of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and support HAZOP/design review activities
  • Collaborate with mechanical, civil, structural, and electrical engineering teams to coordinate system routing and integration within facility designs
  • Support procurement activities including development of material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor drawing reviews
  • Assist in construction administration tasks such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, field change management, and construction site observations
  • Participate in system commissioning, startup, and testing activities
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards including ASME B31.1, B31.3, NFPA, and other relevant regulations
  • Support development and maintenance of engineering design standards, specifications, and best practices documentation
  • Work with operations and maintenance teams to ensure designs support long-term reliability and ease of maintenance
  • Actively pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with the expectation of obtaining licensure within 1–2 years of hire
