About The Position

The Village on Sage Street is seeking a full-time Facility Assistant for its day shift operations in Reno, Nevada. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe, supportive, and functional living environment for residents who are working individuals earning minimum wage or receiving other forms of income. The Facility Assistant will be responsible for ensuring quality service in a non-judgmental manner, integrating with clients, maintaining security, and performing essential housekeeping and janitorial tasks. This position is part of a ministry of service dedicated to helping individuals rebuild their lives and reach their full potential, operating under the mission of Volunteers of America Northern California & Northern Nevada.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to provide services to tenants without ethnic or social prejudices.
  • General knowledge of issues and challenges unique to seniors, lower economic-status individuals, minorities, and persons with disabilities.
  • Must be able to utilize a range of interventions to work with tenants with varying needs and levels of functioning.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours.
  • Willingness to function as a team member.
  • Computer skills required.
  • CPR and First Aid training within ninety (90) days of employment, re-certification as necessary.
  • TB testing annually.

Responsibilities

  • Assure quality service in a safe, non-judgmental manner to all tenants compassionately and professionally.
  • Provide supportive interaction with tenants and team members.
  • Assess tenants’ needs.
  • Support the safety and integrity of all tenants.
  • Perform all work duties as required.
  • Integrate with clients, maintain security, and perform housekeeping and janitorial tasks.
  • Explain program rules and regulations to tenants and facilitate tenants’ observance of the rules.
  • Provide “awake” shift coverage and maintain grounds security at all times.
  • Conduct hourly safety and security checks during designated periods.
  • De-escalate a crisis before it develops and respond to the problem appropriately, providing emergency assistance to tenants and co-workers as necessary.
  • Maintain daily reports to provide statistical information.
  • Perform housekeeping, janitorial, and other maintenance tasks as needed (e.g., change a light bulb, plunge toilet).
  • Prepare rooms for next tenant; maintain/monitor staff area cleanliness to meet health/sanitation requirements.
  • Respond to all tenant questions and concerns.
  • Perform clerical duties on shift, i.e., answer the telephone, record messages, and file as necessary.
  • Maintain clear, thorough, routine communication with all tenants.
  • Respond to lockouts.
  • Support the Volunteers of America staff in implementing policies and procedures.
  • Role model positive behavior.
  • Document and report all tenant concerns and/or infractions that can impact the program’s security.
  • Complete all shift logs, observation logs, and incident reports.
  • Monitor inventory of program equipment and supplies and inform management of any purchasing needs.
  • Secure approval for exceptions to standard policy.
  • Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs necessary to attain performance standards.
  • Adhere to staffing schedules in order to provide adequate/safe staffing coverage and to accomplish program objectives.
  • Communicate with on-site staff, Community Administrator, Administrative Assistant, service providers, and external county/state/city program representatives as required.
  • Comprehend and adhere to ethical standards, program philosophy guidelines, and confidentiality laws.
  • Assist the Community Administrator in department orientation and training of new employees as requested.
  • Maintain an above-average working knowledge of fire, safety, and health standards to ensure a safe work environment for tenants and personnel.
  • Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Attend staff meetings/assigned training and complete required certifications, i.e., CPR, First Aid, etc.
