Shape the future performance of a world-class healthcare environment by ensuring the systems behind it run smarter, safer, and more reliably every day. As a Facilities Systems Engineer, you will connect design, operations, and strategy to optimize entire building lifecycles—not just individual components. This full-time, onsite role based at Haven Court (Palo Alto) partners across engineering disciplines to assess facility conditions, lead root cause investigations, and guide system performance from design through operations. You’ll spend time both analyzing data and engaging in the field, balancing technical depth with enterprise-wide impact, without direct people management responsibilities. Success in this role looks like leading assessments, influencing cross-functional decisions, and ensuring systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory expectations. A Brief Overview Provides technical facilities support, including analyzing engineering-design concepts and installation specifications. Works with SHC Project Engineering groups to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified equipment, processes, utilities, facilities controls and safety/security systems. Responsible for an Asset Management plan to monitor assets including buildings and equipment: applies value analysis to repair/replace/redesign and make/buy decisions for Capex and Opex decisions; adheres to the LifeCycle Asset Management process. What you will do Analyzes preliminary engineering-design concepts of major projects. Uses knowledge of reliability engineering and other technologies to analyze preliminary plans and develop reliability engineering program to achieve reliability objectives. Provides input to a Risk Management Plan that will anticipate reliability-related, and non-reliability-related risksthat could adversely impact plant operation. Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans. Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria. Participates in the final check out and commissioning of new equipment installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing that will assure adherence to functional specifications. Professionally and systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors and refines an Asset Maintenance Plan that includes: Value-added preventive maintenance tasks. Effective utilization of predictive andother non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems. Assessment of effective asset utilization; remaining useful life. Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues. To fulfill this responsibility the Engineer applies: Data analysis techniques that can include: Statistical Process Control Reliability modeling and prediction Fault Tree Analysis. Weibull Tree Analysis. SixSigma (Ga) Methodology. Root-Cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA). Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS). Reviews subcontractors' proposals for reliability program and submits evaluation for decision. Reviews engineering specifications, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements. Monitors failure data generated by Enterprise Asset Management System for assets to ascertain potential requirement for process improvement. Provides project management of projects as needed following Stanford Health Care Policies and procedures. Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduilng for assigned projects. Assists in managing the 5 and 10 year capital plans for facilities for Stanford Health Care and creates individual project submissions as needed. May provide some technical guidance to less experienced design and engineering and/or maintenance personnel.
