About The Position

The Biology Department is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to perform a wide range of facilities services tasks. Those tasks include duties associated with carpentry, painting, ceiling tile replacement, floor tile replacement, cabinet and countertop replacement throughout the buildings. Repairing aging facility needs, and promotion of continuous improvements in departmental safety and environmental practices. A major facet of the position is a high level of customer service as established by the Facility Operations Manager and the Department of Biology. The qualified Facilities Services Technician will interface with Biology faculty, staff, students, and the general public to identify and resolve a variety of facility issues in the Department. Although not required, some knowledge of plumbing, painting and carpentry is useful. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, painter, and/or locksmith. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. This position requires furniture moving and/or assembly, package delivery, and freight receiving. Ability to climb up and down ladders is necessary. Good driving record and valid NM license to assist with fleet operations. A variety of different duties as assigned. There is an opportunity for career advancement in this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders is necessary
