Requirements

Experience in and understanding of building support systems such as HVAC, Electrical Systems, Pumps and Fluid Dynamics, Chemical Handling, Hazardous Waste Management and Building & Infrastructure, including knowledge of vacuum pumps, plumbing, compressors, water systems, safety systems, motors, controllers, refrigeration, and general construction.
Responsible for obtaining annual RCRA, Hazardous Waste and DOT training, participation in applicable training/certification courses and utilizes expertise based on hazmat certifications to provide direction in creation of hazmat shipping documents in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to work with others, training with more experienced technicians to learn best practices on proprietary equipment systems and expand technical skill set.
Desire to learn, ask questions and actively participate in ongoing technical training.
Coachable attitude with the ability to take direction and constructive criticism from senior team members.
Ability to use computers and common software.
Skills to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
Ability to interface with programs such as the Building Management System.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and perform physical labor throughout the shift.
Must be able to pass pre-employment physical (lifting) test and spirometry breathing test upon accepting.

Responsibilities

Carry out tasks in accordance with Viavi Safety Charter; Safe Practices; Procedures and Policies.
Actively contribute to workplace safety by placing the safety of co-workers and self before other priorities.
Monitor the performance and operational status of highly technical equipment and plant support systems within the Facilities area of responsibility to avoid equipment stoppages, slowdowns, or product loss because of equipment malfunction.
Perform daily rounds and inspections, recording and reporting data.
Inspect the performance of building equipment daily and respond as necessary to any variances.
Be responsible for the performance and operational status of equipment within plant support systems, including HVAC systems, Building Management System, process cooling water system, electrical systems, and the fire safety system.
Serve as a resource for Operations, working with equipment maintenance and engineering as required.
Communicate with responsible production personnel.
Complete tasks as directed by the Facilities Lead Technician, supervision, management, or through assigned work requests, managing coordination of tasks and completing assigned work orders in a timely manner.
Assess, create, and maintain hazardous waste storage areas, labeling all raw material as well as collected hazardous waste materials, utilizing Federal, State, and local regulations for guidance.
Assist in physically moving incoming chemical shipments to designated storage areas and supervise storage activities to properly anticipate floor containment needs for exchanges and customer needs due to production.
Ensure all spaces within the area of responsibility are kept consistently organized and clean.
Report all materials consumed and communicate items low on stock.
Investigate root cause, restore equipment, and mitigate future failures when unexpected interruptions or safety incidents occur.
Consistently maintain a safe work area, ensuring tools and instruments are cleaned and put away, and materials are disposed of correctly.
