About The Position

This role involves monitoring construction, operations, maintenance, and/or repair activities to ensure conformance with MSFC standards. This includes adherence to construction and performance specifications, code requirements, and contract construction drawings. The inspector will provide surveillance of these activities, review construction submittals and payment requests, generate daily and site inspection reports, and maintain organized working files. The position also requires monitoring requests for information (RFI) and contract documents, participating in pre-final and final inspections, assisting with punch lists, and reviewing as-built drawings and O&M Manuals for accuracy.

Requirements

Must be a US Citizen
Must pass a federal background review and drug screen
High School Diploma (or equivalent)
5+ years of applicable experience on construction projects
Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
Computer proficiency (MS Office-Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Knowledge of business office procedures.
Ability to read, understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to read and understand construction contract drawings.
Ability to inspect and confirm construction work conforms to design drawings and specifications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and other involved parties.
Must be well organized and detail oriented.
Physically capable to meet requirements in and around construction sites and field assignments.
Ability to safely lift and carry 40 pounds.
Ability to carry equipment associated with construction and inspection.
Ability and willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to read and understand construction contract drawings, specifications, and O&M manuals.
Ability to inspect and confirm construction work conforms to design drawings, specifications, and NASA MSFC standards.
Ability and positive effort to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and other involved parties.

Nice To Haves

Experience as a master or journeyman HVAC technician is a plus
Army Corp of Engineering (USACE), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) or other federal project construction experience is preferred.
college degree in Construction Management is a plus
3+ years of applicable inspection experience on construction projects is preferred
Experience as a master or journeyman electrician is a plus

Responsibilities

Provide inspection and surveillance of construction, operations, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure the work is in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications and NASA standards at MSFC.
Review construction submittals for accuracy and monitor them via specialized construction software such as Procore.
Review and evaluate the accuracy of the construction or maintenance contractor’s requests for progress payments.
Provide daily inspection reports summarizing progress and adequacy of work observed, including verification of the project schedule; includes but not limited to indicating the activities worked on that day and the activities that are on or behind schedule.
Regularly generate Inspectors Site Inspection Reports and update them as necessary for keeping them current.
Maintain orderly working files for correspondence, minutes of meetings and conferences, payments, updated progress schedules, monthly progress reports, punch lists, field changes, and similar documents.
Monitor requests for Information (RFI), and contract documents including amendments, notices to proceed, change orders, modifications, and other locally generated documents developed during the construction period, to ensure continuity of construction, maintenance, and/or repair efforts.
Participate in construction pre-final and final inspections, assist in preparations of detailed punch-lists and check that all punch list items are corrected prior to recommending final payment to the construction contractor.
Review and evaluate as-built drawings to ensure accuracy; note discrepancies found and return for correction.
Assist in review of O&M Manuals received during the construction, maintenance, and/or repair efforts and provide comments as needed to address inaccurate or incomplete information.
