About The Position

A Data Center Chilled Water Expert (often titled as Critical Cooling Systems Technician, Liquid Cooling SME, or Data Center Facilities Engineer) is responsible for the technical authority, maintenance, and optimization of large-scale chilled water and liquid cooling systems that protect critical production.

Requirements

  • Typically 5–10 years of hands-on experience in data centers, Computing facilities, or heavy industrial cooling
  • Deep proficiency in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, hydronic balancing, and control schematics.
  • Certified HVAC Process Cooling
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling.
  • Manufacturer-specific training on major chiller brands (e.g., York, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric).

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on 2000 ton air-cooled/water-cooled chillers, pumps, cooling towers, piping networks and associated control systems.
  • Act as the primary technical authority for rack cooling, Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Liquid cooled rack fans and Roof Top Units (RTUs).
  • Monitor and maintain technical water chemistry to prevent corrosion and biological growth, conducting regular fluid sampling and pH/conductivity testing.
  • Execute rapid fault isolation for cooling-related alarms and performance deviations.
  • Analyze temperature, pressure, and delta-T metrics to optimize system PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and energy efficiency.
  • Supervise third-party service providers during major repairs (e.g., chiller teardowns) and support commissioning for new infrastructure.
