About The Position

This position is responsible for performing general business duties for BED which encompasses improving, maintaining, and repairing BED's buildings, grounds, automotive fleet, mail processing, stockroom activities, and assisting with purchasing activities. This role is part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) union, specifically within Pay Grade 6, with an hourly pay range of $23.45 - $38.44. The position is designated as Remote Tier 1, meaning zero remote work days per week. BED is looking to hire one Facilities Materials Specialist, and applications for both Facilities Materials Specialist I and Facilities Materials Specialist II will be considered for this opening.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, Adult Education or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in building maintenance environment and inventory required.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers using the internet and Outlook.
  • Must have a certificate in Word Level 1.
  • Must have a certificate in Excel Level 1.
  • Must have a certificate in Inventory & Cycle Counts.
  • Basic Typing skills.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Vermont driver's license.
  • Ability to operate a fork-lift, plow truck and related tools and equipment required.
  • Must be tactful, courteous, and able to get along well with co-workers and the public.
  • Must possess good communication skills.
  • Must be able to follow oral and written directions.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and solve problems.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions required.
  • Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
  • Ability to understand and comply with City standards, safety rules and personnel policies.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed consistent with the provisions of the BED/IBEW Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building and ground maintenance, including painting, lawn care, planting, snow shoveling, and mowing at various BED locations.
  • Operate forklifts and plows, and perform other labor-intensive duties.
  • Perform carpentry repairs on furniture and building structures.
  • Set up and tear down event spaces.
  • Process outgoing mail, including customer billing, and operate mailroom machinery.
  • Handle daily payment processing, including cash and check payments.
  • Assist in opening mail and drop box payments.
  • Process returned mail.
  • Perform shipping and receiving duties, including checking purchase orders, verifying received materials, and generating reports.
  • Conduct weekly and annual inventory counts.
  • Manage the exchange of rubber protective equipment.
  • Create inventory labels for incoming materials.
  • Prepare and ship items via Fed-x, UPS, and Freight.
  • Make recommendations for inventory or expensed items to the Director of Purchasing and Facilities.
  • Dispose of salvage materials properly.
  • Receive, unload, and account for purchased materials.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials.
  • Ensure warehouses are locked and secure.
  • Control the distribution of materials from inventory or receipt points.
  • Locate necessary parts during working hours.
  • Maintain clear access to contaminated storage areas.
  • Issue materials to employees.
  • Operate forklifts as required.
  • Maintain inventory and garage bay areas.
  • Deliver parts and supplies to field personnel.
  • Manage inventory control for the entire department.
  • Help maintain a certificate of insurance database for vendors.
  • Assist in maintaining records of sources for equipment, materials, services, and supplies.
  • Help resolve freight claims.
  • Assist with purchasing and scheduling delivery of fuel oil and ammonia.
  • Contact vendors, purchase materials, process reorder reports, and coordinate Purchase Requisitions (PRs) and services.
  • Assist in the preparation, evaluation, entry, and processing of requests for price quotes, RFPs, bid openings, purchase requests, purchase orders, and change orders in compliance with regulations.
