About The Position

This position is responsible for planning and managing a comprehensive district facility maintenance program, including custodial and grounds departments, minor repair operations by head custodians, assessment of all custodial and grounds needs, building and grounds preventative maintenance programs, maintenance of the custodial substitute lists and assignment of custodial substitutes, assessment of all custodial work and grounds maintenance, administration of custodial and grounds budgets, training and evaluation of the custodial and grounds crews, maintain the Integrated Pest Management Program, and Storm Water Management Program. The Facilities Manager will assign work order-driven projects and supervise their completion.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in building maintenance and/or supervising a large facility complex.
  • Skills to complete the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Public Operator License within 90 days and maintain it yearly thereafter.
  • Alternative combinations of training and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all district custodial and grounds employees, including recruitment, selection, hiring, assignment, training, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Establish and implement schedules and procedures for regular custodial and grounds maintenance of school district facilities.
  • Perform regular inspections of all district facilities, make corrections, and provide feedback to ensure high standards of care, cleanliness, sanitation, and repair and appearance.
  • Develop and implement safety training and in-service programs for facility staff.
  • Monitor the use and storage of prescribed chemicals for cleaning and pest control.
  • Assess needs and recommend a budget for long-range facilities custodial and grounds plans and goals.
  • Allocate the current school year budget for custodial and grounds programs, including producing contracts and purchase orders.
  • Maintain, organize, and supplement the district work order and asset management software.
  • Provide administrative support for principals and school buildings, focusing on the building environment's contribution to student learning.
  • Develop and maintain an inventory of all custodial and grounds equipment and its upkeep.
  • Schedule repairs and preventative maintenance for custodial and grounds equipment.
  • Work with local trash and recycling vendors to provide services and scheduling, and mediate collection issues for custodians.
  • Prepare annual custodial and grounds maintenance reports.
  • Notify the Director of Facilities when an employee is not meeting standards to determine disciplinary actions.
  • Implement the Integrated Pest Management Program, working closely with the grounds lead.
  • Implement the Storm Water Management Program, working closely with the grounds lead.
  • Responsible for proper athletic/playfield care and sports activity preparation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations, Director of Facilities, or designee.
