About The Position

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in skilled maintenance of buildings and associated equipment and systems. This position performs painting, carpentry, masonry, roofing, plumbing, piping, and other related repairs. It involves general field work of moderate difficulty in a variety of building maintenance, renovation, restoration, and grounds duties. Duties include interior repairs such as installing and replacing locks, adjusting doors, repairing plumbing fixtures, clearing clogged drains, and performing miscellaneous electrical repairs. It also includes exterior repairs like patching roofs, replacing shingles or siding, repairing steps, concrete walkways, and railings. The role involves preventive maintenance, record keeping (including data entry), prioritizing work requests, responding to emergency situations, and providing on-call services. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of building maintenance and repair work experience
  • Any combination of training, education, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Must successfully complete a background check
  • Must successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Department (if applicable)
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Uniform Building Codes
  • Knowledge of procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in all facets of general building maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and required preventative measures
  • Skill in walking, climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolds
  • Skill in stooping, squatting, and kneeling for short periods of time
  • Skill in painting, carpentry, masonry, and other trades
  • Skill in maintaining safety standards
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing

Responsibilities

  • Performs general field work of moderate difficulty in a variety of building maintenance, renovation, restoration, and grounds duties.
  • Conducts interior repairs including installing and replacing locks, replacing and adjusting doors and door closers, replacing faucets, repairing toilet flushing devices, fixture traps, re-hanging lavatories, clearing clogged drains, and tightening or replacing leaking pipe and pipe joints.
  • Installs electrical conduit, switches, and receptacles, and performs miscellaneous electrical repairs.
  • Installs, replaces, or adjusts light bulbs, ballasts, belts, or similar objects.
  • Replaces tile, performs miscellaneous painting, and repairs and replaces broken woodwork.
  • Installs shelving and repairs cabinetry.
  • Performs maintenance checks and repairs on equipment such as water heaters, small motors, blowers, fans, and pumps.
  • Makes exterior repairs including patching roofs, replacing shingles or siding, repairing steps, concrete walkways, railings, and fences, and repainting.
  • Performs preventive maintenance including filter checks and replacement and other equipment requiring scheduled PMs.
  • May perform grounds keeping duties as required.
  • Prepares and maintains records including data entry into a computerized software program.
  • Prioritizes routine daily work requests.
  • Reports, documents, and responds to emergency situations regarding any issues with the buildings.
  • Provides on-call services as predetermined by the agency head.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
