About The Position

The City of SeaTac is seeking a motivated, hands-on Facilities Maintenance Worker 1 to join our Facilities team! Under the direction of the Facilities Manager or Facilities Maintenance Lead, this position performs semi-skilled to skilled preventative maintenance, construction, repair, and remodeling work on City buildings and facilities. You’ll support HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, equipment repair, safety checks, event setups, and emergency facility response. This role is ideal for someone who is action-oriented, resourceful, and eager to keep our facilities operating smoothly and safely.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in facilities or public works maintenance, repair, and construction work.
  • OR A combination of experience and training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures used in construction trades such as carpentry, concrete, electrical, painting, plumbing, mechanical, welding, and other trades work.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, ordinances, fire regulations and safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and related construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating building control systems including HVAC and security systems.
  • Knowledge of record keeping techniques, electronic and manual.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic methods and techniques of repair maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic methods and techniques of mechanical system installation and repair.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Skill in performing repairs and maintenance on City buildings.
  • Skill in performing heavy and demanding physical labor.
  • Skill in operating hand and power tools and other equipment used in facilities maintenance.
  • Skill in observing health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records; provide informational reporting; evaluate and make decisions based on performance data and maintenance records.
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Ability to learn to operate a variety of maintenance vehicles, equipment, and tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to use a computerized maintenance management system to track and update work orders.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License required by date of appointment.
  • A satisfactory three-year driving abstract record, submitted prior to hire.
  • Valid First-aid certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, repair, alteration and installation tasks for City buildings and associated structures involving heating, ventilation, and air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, carpentry, and other manual skills.
  • Assist in remodeling, repairing, and constructing such items as partitions, room additions, door hardware, counters, tables, bookcases, floors, roofs, and mechanical equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and apply building codes, ordinances and regulations and ensure that City buildings comply.
  • Respond to routine and emergency facility requests, perform preventative maintenance, and assist lead with work.
  • Operate a variety of equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform work in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Inspect building and equipment on a regular basis, make necessary repairs and modifications as needed and reports damage to lead.
  • Set up rooms for different City events, lock and unlock buildings.
  • Set up furniture and equipment move for employees and special events.
  • Ensures disassembly and reassembly of office cubicles, furniture, and hard surfaces.
  • May remove snow or debris from sidewalks, entryways, and driveways of buildings.
  • Respond to emergency call-out situations as necessary.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
