About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management, this position is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the physical plant, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, steam generation/sterilization, plumbing and mechanical systems, general building maintenance, and grounds keeping. The role involves operating and maintaining the physical plant to ensure proper functioning of mechanical systems and safety of the environment of care. This includes performing daily rounds of the hospital facility and weekly rounds on off-campus sites, utilizing BAS and other monitoring systems, and proactively initiating repairs, maintenance, and cleaning by generating work orders. The technician will work independently within established procedures and assist the Facilities Manager with ensuring compliance with Life Safety and Fire safety codes and regulations, tracking and recording all required Life/Fire Safety inspections, and ensuring Interim Life Safety Measures are implemented. The position also requires the use of an electronic system for work order entry and tracking, performing all scheduled maintenance, and completing miscellaneous projects such as painting, drywall, fixture/equipment installation, and furniture/equipment moving. Additionally, the role involves attending regularly scheduled facilities/biomedical meetings, assisting with short and long-range facilities capital budget planning, and coordinating contracted services for inspections, repair, maintenance, or installation of physical plant systems and biomedical equipment. A key responsibility is ensuring compliance with all regulations for the disposal of regulated medical and pharmaceutical waste. The role also includes coordinating with the facilities team to provide 24/7 emergency maintenance and biomedical equipment call schedules, and adjusting schedules to perform work on weekends and after hours. Under direction, the technician may assume additional duties related to plant operations and environment of care, and may direct the activities of maintenance and biomedical technicians in the absence of the Facilities Manager. The position requires demonstrating the hospital's philosophy, mission, and values, applying customer service and continuous quality improvement principles, protecting confidentiality, and fostering a cooperative work environment. Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Minimum 3 years Facilities Maintenance Technician experience preferred.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to (50) pounds in routine material handling, stocking and redistributions process.
  • Arm, hand, wrist, finger coordination required in order to utilize tools and computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to hear, speak and see in order to perform listed duties and tasks.
  • Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals
  • Influenza- documentation of current seasonal flu vaccine (mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year)
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination
  • Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity (titer) to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization
  • Tuberculosis Screening - Documentation of a two-step TB skin test within the past year OR lab verification of a negative TB Gold or T-Spot tuberculin test within the past 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing training and education preferred.
  • Candidates must either hold or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire, the ASHE Qualified HealthCare Physical Environment Worker certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains the physical plant to ensure proper functioning of mechanical systems and safety of the environment of care
  • Performs daily rounds of hospital facility and rounds on off campus sites weekly.
  • Utilizes BAS and other monitoring systems to ensure proper functioning of plant systems
  • Proactively initiates repairs, maintenance, and cleaning and generates work orders accordingly
  • Works independently within established procedures associated with the job function.
  • Assists Facilities Manager with ensuring compliance with Life Safety and Fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Ensures all required Life/Fire Safety inspections are tracked and recorded in work order system.
  • Ensures Interim Life Safety Measures are implemented as indicated for scheduled and unscheduled repair and maintenance
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with Infection Control Risk Assessments as indicated
  • Utilizes electronic system of work order entry and tracking.
  • Documents work order status and completion through ASH’s work order management system.
  • Performs all scheduled maintenance to ensure completion by date due.
  • Initiates and completes miscellaneous projects including painting, drywall, installation of fixtures or equipment, moving furniture or equipment, or as assigned by Facilities Manager or Senior leadership.
  • Attends regularly scheduled facilities/biomedical meetings
  • Attends leadership meetings as requested
  • Assists Facilities Manager with short and long range facilities capital budget planning.
  • Assists with coordination of services contracted for inspections, repair, maintenance, or installation of all physical plant systems and infrastructure and biomedical equipment.
  • Documents contracted services work in work order system and/or Environment of Care and Life Safety documentation tools.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulations for disposal of regulated medical and pharmaceutical waste.
  • Coordinates with facilities team to provide 24/7 emergency maintenance and biomedical equipment call schedule
  • Adjusts schedule accordingly to perform work on weekends and after hours.
  • Assumes additional duties and responsibilities related to plant operations and environment of care at the direction and guidance of the Facilities Manager or Senior Leadership.
  • Directs activities of maintenance and biomedical technicians in absence of, or as determined by, Facilities Manager.
