About The Position

Florence Crittenton Services of Topeka is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals and families through a comprehensive range of behavioral health and wellness services. With over a century of experience, we are committed to promoting mental health, social justice, and overall well-being. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the agency by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and repairing equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to: Inspecting the agency’s physical properties, equipment, and systems for potential issues. Making repairs to facility property and equipment as needed. Managing plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems to ensure functionality. Conducting preventative maintenance to maximize equipment functionality and lifespan. Responding to emergency maintenance requests. Testing emergency and fire alarm systems routinely and as required. Managing vendor contracts and relationships. Assisting with custodial and housekeeping duties as needed. Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. This position works closely with the agency’s Leadership Team to manage and prioritize facility projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and ability to perform basic math functions.
  • Preferred minimum of 4 years of previous experience in general maintenance tasks.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Recordkeeping and accounting skills.
  • Ability to interact with residents and staff in a consistently pleasant manner.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and heating and cooling skills.
  • Know the appropriate operation of all common hand or power tools.
  • Able to tolerate prolonged standing.
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Able to drive and transport building items as necessary.
  • Able to move and lift 25 lbs. To 50 lbs. with assistance
  • Able to work effectively in a noisy and crowded environment.
  • Able to tolerate working in and around fumes and odors.
  • Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains operating conditions of buildings, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Tracks and orders household supplies as needed.
  • Tests emergency and fire alarm equipment regularly.
  • Arranges and supervises outside vendors or volunteers as required.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records for the agency and other regulatory bodies.
  • Supports the philosophy and mission of the agency.
  • Attends classes, in-services and workshops voluntarily or as assigned.
  • Inspecting the agency’s physical properties, equipment, and systems for potential issues.
  • Making repairs to facility property and equipment as needed.
