About The Position

Under minimal supervision, employees holding this position performs independent, higher-level inspection, maintenance, and repairs on Town facilities through performing a variety of maintenance and repair duties involving heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical work, carpentry, plumbing and painting to maintain Town facilities. This position differs from the Facility Maintenance Technician II position in the classification series by performing the highest level of difficult, complex, and irregular tasks and may lead and/or advise lower-level technicians in the absence of the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of facilities, maintenance and repair methods and techniques.
  • Proficient in project planning and compliance with building codes.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Town and Department policies, procedures and safety practices.
  • Ability to maintain records and perform mathematical computations.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to utilize diagnostic and special equipment to identify faults.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety procedures related to maintenance activities and use of maintenance tools.
  • Ability to advise and mentor other technicians.
  • Knowledge of all building systems, their operation and municipal infrastructure.
  • Skill in troubleshooting advanced building systems and diagnostics.
  • Skill in testing facility systems functions.
  • Skill in fabrication and welding.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings and documents.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office, with an emphasis in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Associates degree in multiple trades.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in facilities maintenance including plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, HVAC or closely related work.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona driver license upon the first day of employment.
  • Must complete Falls Protection Training and CJIS Safety and Awareness training.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must pass an Arizona Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check and screening by the Oro Valley Police Department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the job functions detailed in the Facilities Maintenance Technician I and II job descriptions.
  • Oversees Facility Maintenance operations in the absence of the Facility Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Performs complex repairs, preventative maintenance and system upgrades/installations.
  • Prepares estimates of required materials and develops strategies and plans to execute in-depth maintenance projects.
  • Management of small, outsourced facility repair projects.
  • Performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on low- and high-voltage electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Oversees and coordinates the work of outside contractors to ensure compliance with Town standards.
  • Offers technical guidance and support to others.
  • Assists Supervisor in refining and improving the facility Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Assists in budgeting, inventory management, procurement and reviewing contractor bids, when needed.
