About The Position

The Facilities & Field Maintenance Technician plays a key role within our Service Department, balancing customer-facing field service with the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of company facilities, grounds, and equipment. This position completes service calls and installations at customer locations, troubleshoots equipment and system issues, and helps coordinate field service activities to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to The Pond Guy’s service standards. When not working at customer locations, this role supports facility operations through preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general upkeep. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, leadership, and a customer-focused mindset. Requirements

  • 3-5 years of technical, mechanical, facility, or equipment maintenance experience
  • Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge required, including troubleshooting and safely working around electrical systems; experience with high-voltage systems is a plus
  • Proficient computer skills required, including the ability to use service software and basic office programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Will require the ability to receive a Chauffer’s license and DOT card
  • Ability to operate a boat and drive a truck and trailer will be required after training
  • High School diploma required, college degree preferred
  • Ability to swim, perform repetitive motions for extended periods; demonstrate manual dexterity when working with small components; frequently bend, stoop, and stand for long durations; lift, lower, and carry packages typically weighing 25–50 lbs; and handle packages up to 150 lbs with assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-3 years of customer service experience recommended; sales experience is a plus
  • Experience operating heavy machinery a plus
  • Basic knowledge of pond management, fish health, and wildlife behaviors is a plus
  • Cross-train on pond management, including obtaining state certification as a chemical applicator

Responsibilities

  • Complete service calls at customer locations regarding pond/lake equipment and lead or assist with installations of complete fountain and aeration systems
  • Support the scheduling and coordination of daily service routes while maintaining communication with service office staff to optimize assignments and customer satisfaction
  • Communicate with customers regarding pond and equipment status, maintenance needs, service issues, and recommended solutions
  • Electronically complete service notes, including work orders and inventory used, and communicate repair trends to Quality and management
  • Follow and reinforce safety procedures regarding product use, equipment installation and service, electrical practices, facility maintenance, and safety devices
  • Assist with vehicle, equipment, inventory, and shop inspections and ensure proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage procedures are followed
  • Cross-train and support other Service Department functions as needed, including aquatic treatment activities, while following applicable regulatory requirements
  • Support grounds, facility, and general building maintenance, including identifying maintenance needs and completing repairs within the scope of the position
  • Coordinate with internal teams and outside service providers when facility repairs or maintenance require additional expertise or resources
