About The Position

This recruitment is for two plumber assignment vacancies, one in Facilities Management and one in Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. It will also be used to establish an eligible list for future Facilities Equipment Technician - Plumbing vacancies. A Facilities Equipment Technician I primarily performs skilled plumbing work in City buildings, handling a variety of tasks in plumbing systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work assignments can be received verbally or in writing, and employees may exercise lead supervision over semi-skilled and unskilled workers when required. This role involves mechanical equipment trades work, functioning as a plumbing specialist with a high degree of competence and at least three years of commercial journey-level experience. Employees may be assigned to Facilities Maintenance or Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. Progression to Facilities Equipment Technician II is possible upon meeting specific performance and certification criteria. Duties are performed under general or specific instructions, with work potentially inspected by a supervisor. Responsibilities include exercising initiative and independent judgment in troubleshooting and repair. This position is subject to stand-by duty and 24-hour call-out, and requires the use of appropriate safety equipment and procedures. This class is FLSA non-exempt.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a plumbing trades apprenticeship program (certification of completion must be provided).
  • Considerable (3 - 5 years) commercial, journey-level plumbing experience.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date.
  • Must pass a background investigation through the City of Mesa Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to commencing employment.
  • Individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Good (1 - 3 years) experience working with computers.
  • Good (1 - 3 years) experience working with Energy Management Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs skilled plumbing work in City buildings.

  • Troubleshoots malfunctions and determines the proper method of repair.

  • Subject to stand-by duty and 24-hour call-out.
