About The Position

The Facilities Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and project management to our conventional area projects. The role will ensure that plant electrical design and field electrical equipment and processes meet Canadian Natural industry codes and standards. This position will be responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, and operational support of electrical equipment, including power distribution switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, motors, and electrical heat-trace installations. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a demonstrated track record of executing high-quality work.

Requirements

  • Typically, 5+ years of related industry experience with an Engineering Degree or Diploma
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
  • Solid organizational skills and adept ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Very good understanding of: Controls and instrumentation
  • Very good understanding of: Canadian Electrical Codes, practices, and implementations
  • Very good understanding of: Industry Standards

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the overall success of Canadian Natural’s Conventional operations through interaction with a cross-functional team, including Facilities, Operations, Project Controls, and other engineering disciplines
  • Assist in the development of engineering deliverables, ensuring work is on time and on budget, as well as identify and quantify the value of upgrade/optimization opportunities
  • Participate in and contribute to all aspects and phases of projects from evaluation, design, construction, and troubleshooting
  • Ensure all applicable electrical standards, specifications, and regulations are met and make recommendations for best practices
  • Ensure electrical maintenance and reliability requirements have been addressed for repairs, plant changes, and major equipment purchases
  • Project management, including initiation, design, budgeting, construction, commissioning, and closeout for all projects
  • Develop supervisory skills by coordinating the efforts of the third-party engineering companies and contractors in their area of specialty and ensuring they diligently perform all obligations (quality, schedule, and cost)
