About The Position

Texas Instruments is seeking an experienced Facilities Controls Engineer to support PLC/SCADA development and build utility systems for a semiconductor wafer fab. TI Facilities operates more than 150 utility systems, including chemical, gas, electrical, water, HVAC, waste, vacuum, and controls systems. These systems are designed to operate continuously, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, to support advanced manufacturing. Facilities works with manufacturing teams to understand the impact of utility systems on processes and to reduce consumption. The role involves designing, implementing, and troubleshooting controls systems, instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks. The engineer will support facility expansion and sustaining projects, provide technical controls support to the 24-hour operations team, ensure compliance with applicable codes, and work with suppliers and engineers across disciplines and TI sites to improve performance and share best practices. Texas Instruments will not sponsor applicants for visas or work authorization for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • At least 5 years of relevant engineering experience with industrial controls and instrumentation systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PLCs and/or SCADA systems.
  • Experience applying controls and instrumentation to process systems such as process cooling water, hot water, air systems, exhaust, and chemical or gas distribution.
  • Demonstrated experience with Siemens, Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, or WAGO PLC hardware and software.
  • Experience programming Siemens, Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley, or WAGO PLCs using control narratives or sequences of operations.
  • Experience developing or delivering turnkey Wonderware/Operations Management Interface (OMI) SCADA systems.
  • Experience in industrial network design, configuration, installation, maintenance, security strategies, and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of PID loop tuning.
  • Ability to terminate instrumentation to a controller and perform calibration through the program interface.
  • Ability to troubleshoot alarms, field instrumentation, pneumatic and electric control valves, variable-speed drives, and motor starters.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to respond quickly to potentially critical situations, assess them rapidly and accurately, identify causes of failures, determine corrective actions, and implement them promptly to mitigate system upsets.
  • Proficiency with PC hardware and Windows-based applications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot controls systems and instrumentation, including flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, and water-quality monitoring equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs, including PLC hardware, I/O interface modules, and programming software.
  • Program and troubleshoot SCADA systems used to monitor facility systems.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot secure, reliable industrial networks for communications between devices, PLCs, and SCADA drivers.
  • Assist with developing and executing controls-related scope for facility expansion and sustaining projects, including P&IDs, sequences of operations, I/O lists, panel drawings, and instrumentation lists.
  • Understand industrial equipment, processes, and operating parameters, and make decisions with engineering support to improve or maintain controls and instrumentation hardware and software.
  • Provide technical controls support for the 24-hour operations team.
  • Ensure projects and systems comply with applicable codes, including the National Electrical Code and International Fire Code.
  • Influence supplier performance through management and audits of field work.
  • Develop relationships and communicate with engineers across disciplines and at other TI sites to foster best-practice sharing and communication.
