About The Position

Under the guidance of the Senior Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant will be responsible for helping maintain the Blair Audubon Center and the surrounding Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary grounds, buildings and satellite locations. This position will assist with maintenance tasks around campus, on the Boardwalk, and in the field - including but limited to keeping buildings in good running condition, troubleshooting plumbing and electrical components, carpentry work, Boardwalk repairs, mechanical repairs on equipment, using ladders, moving materials and equipment around campus and town and other duties as assigned. This role is a 20 hour a week, part-time position on-site at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Naples, Florida.

Requirements

  • High School, GED or Vocational required.

  • 0-1 years’ experience in building trades, grounds support, or related fields.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license – transport equipment, run errands, and drive to auxiliary work sites.
  • Experience with basic trades including carpentry, electrical troubleshooting, plumbing troubleshooting.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with other staff and interact positively with visitors to the sanctuary and others in the community.
  • Must demonstrate pride and ownership in their work.
  • Must possess good judgment and be able to work independently under minimal supervision and be part of a team.
  • A flexible approach to work and willing to work various hours to support Visitor Center and Sanctuary needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Highly ethical, honest, and reliable.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy and be detail oriented.
  • Commitment to safety through strict adherence to health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Facility members with various daily operations and complete daily work orders.
  • Work with Volunteers to supervise campus cleanup and boardwalk repairs
  • Weekly campus cleanup, i.e. leaf blow pathways, pick up trash in parking lot, etc.
  • Assist with special events and functions such as setting up meeting rooms and other spaces when requested.
  • Responsible for maintenance tasks such as boardwalk repairs, carpentry, fleet equipment repairs, transporting equipment, and running errands.
  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.
  • Other duties as assigned.
