About The Position

The position is responsible for assembling (fit) major aluminum components/parts and completely weld out assembly. Set-up of welding equipment IAW approved procedures and preparation of parts in accordance with cleanliness standards, specifications and standard work instructions. Ability to fit and weld work to close tolerances, and understand distortion control of aluminum weldment.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma is preferred
  • Weld Certificate, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 4 Years of welding experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Analyze engineering drawings to plan layout/assembly sequence of small weldments using both metric and imperial systems.
  • Determine required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, welding techniques and standard procedures/processes provided by the company.
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts according to specifications/drawings using straight edge, combination square, calipers, declivity gauge, port-a-power, steam boat jack, plumb bob, chalk line, and tape measure.
  • Cut aluminum plate/shapes using chop saws, bandsaws, sawzalls, circular saws, table saws.
  • Weld or tack aluminum parts together using GMAW 2F/3F/4F/2G/3G/4G and GTAW 2F/3F/4F.
  • Clean and prep materials using sanders, files, scrapers, and grinders.
  • Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to assemble components.
  • Self inspect work for defects and properly fix based on quality specifications/standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to use, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain MIG equipment.
  • Understand different requirements for all types of fasteners inlcuding torque requirements.
  • Proficient in utilizing chemicals in the facility for prepping materials, sealing joints, and joint compounds.
  • Dismantle aluminum assemblies or cuts scrap metal, using saws, routers or plasma-arc equipment.
  • Position and secure parts using hoist, crane, wire and banding machine, or hand tools.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using tape measure, micrometer, caliper, feeler gauge and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from work piece using portable sander, hand file or scraper. Ability to use carbide cutter safely and effectively.
  • Recieve qualification in rigging and overhead crane usage.
  • Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Must abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
