About The Position

The Fabrication Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to sheet metal, structural steel, and copper fabrication operations. This position drives operational excellence by ensuring high-quality products are manufactured safely, on time, and within budget. The Fabrication Manager leads strategic planning, capacity alignment, and continuous improvement initiatives while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and performance. This role requires a high-energy, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual with a strong sense of urgency and a commitment to world-class manufacturing standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes including sheet metal, structural steel, and copper.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Epicor).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing standards (AWS, AISC, ASTM, ISO).
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information and respond to questions from employees, management, and customers.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages.
  • Ability to interpret production data and metrics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to apply practical and logical thinking in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple variables and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment for advanced roles.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze work orders, bills of materials, blueprints, and production schedules to determine materials, processes, and sequencing requirements.
  • Coordinate fabrication activities across departments to ensure timely completion of production goals.
  • Ensure machinery is properly set up, maintained, and operating at optimal efficiency; oversee inspections of work in progress.
  • Monitor production metrics, labor hours, and time estimates; hold team members accountable for performance targets.
  • Review production and time records to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Align fabrication capacity with company growth objectives and production demands.
  • Lead and implement Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to production methods, equipment performance, plant layout, and material flow.
  • Propose capital equipment investments and facility enhancements to support long-term operational goals.
  • Manage and lead 30–60 employees, including supervisors and lead personnel across fabrication and machine shop operations.
  • Train, mentor, and develop employees and leadership staff to build a high-performing team.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, manage compensation recommendations, and address employee relations issues.
  • Enforce company policies, safety regulations, and OSHA compliance requirements.
  • Promote a positive work environment focused on safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, including labor, materials, and capital expenditures.
  • Support cost estimation, scheduling, and methods development for custom fabrication projects.
  • Drive cost-efficiency improvements year-over-year while maintaining product quality.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Production, and Quality teams to ensure products meet specifications and delivery timelines.
  • Analyze and resolve operational and personnel issues; assist team members in troubleshooting challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards and regulations, including AWS (American Welding Society), AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), and ASTM / ISO standards for coating adhesion and film thickness.
