About The Position

The Fabrication Facility Foreman has a background in a metal fabrication/welding environment and has supervisory experience in a Welding Shop. They will supervise and coordinate activities of employees working in the sheet metal fabrication, welding, painting, and stock areas of the shop facility. The Fabrication Facility Foreman will be responsible for daily operation of Welding shop and assisting the Fabrication Facility Manager with all tasks. They must be able to interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders. They will establish and adjust work sequences to meet work completion schedules, analyze and resolve work problems and maintain and submit time records. They study schedules and estimate worker/hour requirements for job completion.

Requirements

  • Thoroughly familiar with marine construction and shipyard work.
  • Thoroughly familiar with all types of industrial cutting, burning and metal bending shop tools to include safe use and maintenance.
  • Ability to read blueprints on new and repair work, fitting, cutting.
  • Proficiency with a cutting torch (Oxy/ace and Plasma).
  • Proficiency in rolling, bending large steel.
  • Proficiency in use of hand tools.
  • Strong ability to develop, train, and lead subordinates.
  • Experience with precisely interpreting NAVSEA approved structural drawings or similar blueprints.
  • HS diploma or GED may be required depending on varying contract stipulations; certificate documentation required for listed education.
  • Experience in Marine Construction.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders.
  • Proficient in SMAW, OSS Steel to HY-100, Stainless - FCAW - GMAW.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a fabrication shop.
  • Minimum 2 years in Leadership role.
  • Comprehensive structural blueprint interpretation is required with specific experience in fitting and welding.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all machinery, hot work requirements and stringent safety protocols relative to prefabrication efforts.
  • Be able to access all US Military facilities, Homeland Security facilities and private shipyards.
  • Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds.
  • Operating with heavy metal and machinery at times in a noisy and non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Performing tasks in confined spaces.
  • Performing tasks onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc.
  • May be required to work outdoors.
  • Experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
  • Fire watch certification/license.
  • OSHA 10 certification/license.
  • Stainless Steel, FCAW, SMAW, and GMAW certifications/licenses.
  • ISO 9001: Quality Management System certification/license.
  • Personal Protective Equipment knowledge.
  • Powered Industrial Trucks certification/license.
  • Respiratory Protection certification/license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead employees in safety, productivity, efficiency, process improvement and quality.
  • Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
