About The Position

Gift of Life Donor Program, the non-profit agency serving eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, is responsible for recovering organs and tissues used in lifesaving and life-enhancing transplants. Join the nation’s leading organ donor program, which coordinates more life-saving transplants than any program in the country and provides hope and healing to thousands each year. This is a unique opportunity for a recent surgical technology grad or other clinically experienced individual residing in the Hershey or nearby area, who is knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques, to train and work as an Eye Bank Technician performing Eye Bank duties according to established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Certificate or degree from an accredited surgical technology training program, sterile processing program or a related health field
  • Knowledge of surgical aseptic techniques, human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of how to perform and accurately document basic physical examinations
  • Ability to work effectively with varied external partners (donor families, colleagues, hospitals, and off-site personnel)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Recovers eye and cornea tissues from donors following procedures to reduce contamination rate and surgical errors on recovered and processed corneas.
  • Reports on the job accidents immediately. Ensures FDA, EBAA, AATB guidelines and Gift of Life Standard Operating Procedures are followed.
  • Assists with the continued implementation and improvement of safety and quality assurance programs. Makes recommendations to department leadership to improve procedures for cornea recovery.
  • Participates in special projects to support the department’s advancement of the Gift of Life Mission. Provides support to department and organization leadership in meeting annual departmental goals and objectives. Assists department leadership with special projects.
