About The Position

The 3rd Shift Extrusion Supervisor is responsible for leading overnight extrusion operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees extrusion operators, coordinates production activities, troubleshoots equipment issues, and maintains alignment with company standards for safety, quality, and performance. The supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining production continuity and setting the tone for accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence during off-hours.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
Strong understanding of extrusion processes, materials, and equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues in real time.
Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and lead effectively during off-shift hours.

technical or trade education preferred
3–5+ years of experience in extrusion or plastics manufacturing (preferred)

Responsibilities

Oversee all extrusion operations during 3rd shift to ensure production targets are met.
Monitor machine performance, throughput, and material usage to optimize efficiency.
Coordinate startup, shutdown, and changeovers of extrusion lines.
Troubleshoot processing and equipment issues and escalate to maintenance when necessary.
Ensure proper documentation of production data, downtime, and output.
Supervise, coach, and develop extrusion operators and support Plant Supervisor.
Assign work, manage staffing levels, and ensure proper shift coverage in coordination with Plant Supervisor.
Set clear expectations for performance, accountability, and behavior.
Address performance issues, provide feedback, and participate in disciplinary actions when needed.
Foster a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Enforce all safety policies, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures.
Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards immediately.
Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
Coordinate with Plant Supervisor for incident response and reporting for any accidents or near misses.
Ensure all products meet quality specifications and customer requirements.
Work closely with Quality Control to address defects and implement corrective actions.
Maintain adherence to ISO standards and internal quality systems.
Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities to plant leadership.
Ensure smooth transition between shifts through detailed shift handoffs.
Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and other departments to resolve issues quickly.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
Support implementation of process improvements and standard work.
Train team members on best practices and new procedures.
