About The Position

The 3rd Shift Extrusion Supervisor is responsible for leading overnight extrusion operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role oversees extrusion operators, coordinates production activities, troubleshoots equipment issues, and maintains alignment with company standards for safety, quality, and performance. The supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining production continuity and setting the tone for accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence during off-hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong understanding of extrusion processes, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues in real time.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and lead effectively during off-shift hours.

Nice To Haves

  • technical or trade education preferred
  • 3–5+ years of experience in extrusion or plastics manufacturing (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all extrusion operations during 3rd shift to ensure production targets are met.
  • Monitor machine performance, throughput, and material usage to optimize efficiency.
  • Coordinate startup, shutdown, and changeovers of extrusion lines.
  • Troubleshoot processing and equipment issues and escalate to maintenance when necessary.
  • Ensure proper documentation of production data, downtime, and output.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop extrusion operators and support Plant Supervisor.
  • Assign work, manage staffing levels, and ensure proper shift coverage in coordination with Plant Supervisor.
  • Set clear expectations for performance, accountability, and behavior.
  • Address performance issues, provide feedback, and participate in disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Enforce all safety policies, including PPE usage and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and address hazards immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with Plant Supervisor for incident response and reporting for any accidents or near misses.
  • Ensure all products meet quality specifications and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with Quality Control to address defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain adherence to ISO standards and internal quality systems.
  • Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities to plant leadership.
  • Ensure smooth transition between shifts through detailed shift handoffs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and other departments to resolve issues quickly.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Support implementation of process improvements and standard work.
  • Train team members on best practices and new procedures.
