About The Position

The Extrusion Manager is responsible for overseeing all extrusion production and press operations on all shifts, including materials purchasing, planning and scheduling, and press recipe control, to meet or exceed safety, quality and production goals and ensure customer satisfaction and on-time delivery. This position owns the Production/Materials department’s processes within the AAEC ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Requirements

Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems, including document control, nonconforming product, corrective action and internal audits.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety procedures, including lean and 5S.
Ability to read blueprints and use measurement tools.
Strong computer skills.
Strong leadership, influencing and conflict resolution skills, with experience managing a diverse employee group.
Proven ability to multi-task and set priorities under pressure.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
High attention to detail, with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing operations leadership experience required.
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Nice To Haves

Thorough knowledge of the aluminum extrusion process (press, stretching, finish saw, aging) and the work instructions for each department is preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in metal extrusion and press operations preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day operational leadership for all shifts, directly and through Shift Supervisors and Press Leads.
Ensure supervisors follow the AAEC shift management standard, including pre-shift meetings, shift line-up, area audits and shift hand-off.
Provide effective management and leadership direction over team members, including performance management and disciplinary procedures.
Facilitate team development through effective selection, orientation, training and development processes, including planning, appraisals and compensation administration.
Manage supervisory staff to review safety, quality, planning, training and other essential company business.
Serve as the escalation point for press downtime and communicate items of interest or concern to employees and the Plant Manager.
Plan and schedule press and downstream production, including staffing requirements, adjusting schedules based on customer demand and manufacturing performance.
Work closely with the Sales department to set production expectations, confirm lead times and manage bookings.
Create and process purchase orders for logs, billets and other materials; source vendors, negotiate purchasing contracts and maintain vendor relationships.
Oversee raw material receiving and inventory accuracy (logs, billets, WIP racks) and the integrity of EPICS information, including chemistry overrides and billet transfers to other AAEC facilities.
Input production standards into EPICS and ensure all work orders and Job Travelers going to the floor have the proper information attached.
Own press (die) recipes jointly with the Die Shop Manager: approve recipe changes and maintain the Press Recipe Matrix.
Participate in die trials, lead first production run validation, and approve die moves between presses.
Monitor daily extrusion production, die performance and weight-per-foot results, and drive corrective action when targets are missed.
Ensure nonconforming product is identified, segregated and dispositioned per the Quality Management System, and direct rework or repacking when required.
Lead safety initiatives, including accident investigations, problem resolution and training; ensure regulatory compliance as appropriate (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
Ensure all production employees are trained on the work instructions for their job.
Ensure powered equipment (forklift and crane) pre-use inspections are completed and reviewed weekly.
Maintain the Production/Materials department’s work instructions and forms under ISO 9001 document control, and initiate changes when processes change.
Complete risk and opportunity assessments for department processes, and respond to internal audit findings and corrective actions.
Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives using lean principles and 5S, and manage monthly budgets for manpower, equipment and resources.
Complete documentation as required.
Cross-train, learn and support other functions or processes as required.
Complete all other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or Company President.
