About The Position

This role assists press operators in achieving department goals by following instructions and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of extrusion equipment. The Extrusion Helper is responsible for powering up and down machinery, preparing the billet oven and press according to the schedule, and safely transferring metal from the press to the pullers and cooling table. This position also involves documenting extruded orders, ensuring maximum pounds per hour are achieved, and verifying run-out lengths. The role requires adherence to all company policies, procedures, and quality standards, as well as identifying and reporting safety hazards.

Requirements

Must wear appropriate PPE at all times (e.g., gloves, safety glasses, ear protection).
Exposure to high temperatures, noise, and dust in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Adhere to all policies, procedures, rules, quality, and customer service standards.
Identify safety hazards and report them to management.
Comply with all safety guidelines.
Assist press operators and follow instructions to accomplish department goals.
Ensure operated machinery is in safe working order.
Power up log oven/extrusion press and pullers.
Review press schedule and prepare billet oven and press accordingly.
Lead die out by building pressure on the press after the die is inserted by the lead man.
Ensure safe transfer of metal from press to pullers and onto the cooling table.
Properly shear off the butt of the billet at the end of each extrusion.
Ensure maximum pounds per hour are achieved.
Verify that the run-out of metal accommodates the finished saw cut length with proper end scrap.
Document all orders extruded into the press report and enter information into the EPICS system.
Power down log oven, extrusion press, and pullers.
