About The Position

Valdese Weavers is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company with over 100 years of history, operating as one of the world's largest woven textile mills. They design and manufacture residential and contract-grade fabrics for various clients. This role involves operating and maintaining extrusion machinery to manufacture yarn by melting Polypropylene pellets into threads. The position requires adherence to ISO 9001 work instructions and standards, with a focus on quality control and machine operation.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills with the ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to discern colors and shades.
  • Must be able to work alone with strong attention to detail.

  • Mechanical aptitude preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain extrusion machinery.
  • Manufacture yarn by melting Polypropylene pellets into long threads.
  • Perform color changes on extruder lines by changing chips, settings, clearing the mixer, and extruding previous colors.
  • Clean and inspect individual pack parts.
  • Rebuild packs containing spinnerets for reuse.
  • Monitor extrude machinery and correct quality product non-conformance issues.
  • Control machine settings, stage raw materials, and oversee production to ensure high-quality operation.
  • Add color to the yarn during the extrusion process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • Maintain personal attendance practices to meet established company goals.
  • Maintain personal work habits that meet the demands and stresses of the job.
  • Work scheduled overtime.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner following guidelines established by Valdese Weavers.
  • Report all job-related injuries and safety hazards to the supervisor immediately.
  • Actively participate in safety programs that identify, investigate, and correct safety hazards.
  • Follow the 5 S standards as described in the associate handbook.
  • Use hearing protection in high noise areas as needed to do the job safely.
