Pratt & Whitney is seeking an Externals Design Engineer Intern to support its Mechanical Systems, Externals, & Nacelles (MSEN) Engineering organization. MSEN is responsible for the design, development, and in-service support of power transmission systems, bearing compartments and rotor support, oil and thermal management systems, engine externals packaging and architecture, and nacelles for commercial and military engines. External hardware includes components such as tubes, brackets, electrical harnesses, and mounting structures packaged on the outside of an engine. Externals designers work across engine modules and integrate lubrication, electrical, fuel, and air systems, while also supporting operational engines and overhaul investigations. The intern will execute design tasks, support field investigations, development engine testing, and production engine assembly. The role includes creating and modifying designs, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting engine build and teardown activities. The intern will use engineering drawings and may apply CAD and product data management tools such as Siemens NX and Teamcenter. The internship offers opportunities to develop knowledge in blueprint interpretation, GD&T, externals component design, solid modeling, tolerance stack analysis, and root cause assessments. Interns will learn how to work with cross-disciplinary teams, communicate technical topics, and plan and execute small design tasks. The role is onsite in East Hartford, Connecticut, and requires U.S. Person status.
