External Adjunct - Mathematics

About The Position

SUNY Sullivan is seeking to fill the position of Mathematics Adjunct for the Fall 2026 semester. The incumbent will provide seated and/or online instruction for the following courses: Elementary Statistics (online), Intermediate Algebra (seated), and Applied Contemporary Math (online). Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to the community college philosophy and a culture of belonging.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Mathematics or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning preferred; or Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and 6 years or more experience in the field
  • Teaching experience, preferably in the community college setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as necessary for working with diverse groups of people with varying backgrounds and learning styles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively learn new technologies (learning management systems, online tools, etc.)
  • Familiarity with a breadth and depth of technologies, as applied to specific classes

Responsibilities

  • Teach up to 14 contact hours of general mathematics courses, as well as potential additional courses related to the applicant's area of professional expertise
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching and possess the ability to effectively interact with a diverse student and employee population
  • Hold reliable, student-accessible office hours
  • Take part as needed in advising and mentoring students, developing curricula, recruiting students, and attending division and faculty meetings
