About The Position

Under direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs select procedures and treatments. Maintains patient care units in orderly condition and assists RN as requested.

Ability to perform select procedures and treatments.
Ability to maintain patient care units in orderly condition.
Ability to assist RN as requested.
Ability to document in the patient's medical record under the supervision of RN.
Ability to report any abnormal findings to RN.
Ability to take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight and blood pressure.
Ability to measure and record fluid intake and output.
Ability to obtain specimens (urine, stool, sputum, blood) and document collection.
Ability to test finger sticks for glucose and record results.
Ability to administer enemas and record results.
Ability to perform treatments such as dressing changes, pressure ulcer care, trach care, suctioning and record results under supervision of RN.
Ability to check potency of drainage tubes (foley catheter, NG tubes) and record.
Ability to assist with tube feedings after validation of tube placement by RN.
Ability to monitor I.V. fluids and tubing.
Ability to change and make beds.
Ability to strip patient units and equipment upon discharge.
Ability to prepare room for new admission and postoperative patients.
Ability to maintain equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Ability to assist with preparing patient for meals, and feed or assist patients with meals.
Ability to transport and accompany patients.
Ability to assist with post-mortem care and transport body to morgue.
Ability to attend educational programs to augment clinical experiences.

Responsibilities

Assists Registered Nurse by performing selected procedures and treatments.
May document in the patient's medical record under the supervision of RN.
Reports any abnormal findings, related to patient, to RN for further action.
Takes and records temperature, pulse, respirations, weight and blood pressure.
Measures and records fluid intake and output.
Obtains specimens, i.e. urine, stool, sputum, blood, documents collection.
Tests finger sticks for glucose and records results.
Administers enemas and records results.
Performs treatments, i.e. dressing changes, pressure ulcer care, trach care, suctioning and records results under supervision of RN.
Checks potency of drainage tubes (foley catheter, NG tubes) and records.
Assist with tube feedings AFTER VALIDATION of tube placement by RN.
Monitors I.V. fluids and tubing.
Maintains patient care units in a neat and orderly condition.
Changes and makes beds.
Strips patient units and equipment upon discharge of patient, in preparation for cleaning by Housekeeping Department.
Prepares room for new admission and postoperative patients.
Maintains equipment in clean and orderly condition.
Assists Registered Nurse in preparing patient for meals, and feeds or assists patients with meals.
Performs a variety of duties including, but not limited to transporting and accompanying patients.
Assisting with post-mortem care and in transporting body to morgue.
Attending educational programs to augment clinical experiences.
Performs related duties, as required.
