About The Position
SIFMA is seeking a Spring Extern to support its Office of General Counsel. The externship provides hands-on experience with substantive projects and collaboration with experts in the financial services industry and public policy arena. Legal externs conduct legal research and writing, may participate in meetings with members and regulators, and learn how SIFMA formulates, analyzes, and supports public policy positions on behalf of its members. The extern will primarily work on matters related to broker-dealers and banks, as well as nonprofit corporate law. The selected extern may participate for school credit.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a JD and/or LLM degree.
- Strong interest in the financial industry and related laws and regulations.
- Excellent clerical, organizational, time-management, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Professional demeanor.
- Effectiveness, persistence, and commitment at work.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and writing projects.
- Participate in meetings with SIFMA members and regulators, as opportunities arise.
- Learn how SIFMA formulates, analyzes, and supports public policy positions.
- Support work primarily related to broker-dealers and banks, as well as nonprofit corporate law.
