About The Position

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is seeking an Extension Support Specialist II- Dairy Business Management Specialist. This role will provide administrative support for the Dairy Farm Business Summary and Analysis Program (DFBS), assist with data collection and analysis for participating farms, conduct applied research data analysis, publish extension bulletins, develop educational program materials, and design and implement program improvements. The specialist will also serve as a liaison between the DFBS program and its stakeholders, support the Dairy Profit Monitor program, maintain monthly dairy market watch reports, assist in coordinating discussion groups, and lead efforts for activity analysis projects. This position requires direct interaction with dairy producers and their advisors across New York State. The role is full-time (40 hours/week) and located in Ithaca, New York, with extensive travel (20-40%) throughout the state. This is a one-year appointment with possible extension. The position also involves supporting ongoing improvements to the Dairy Profit Monitor program, maintaining monthly dairy market watch reports, assisting in coordinating and facilitating discussion group programs, and leading efforts to develop and assist in conducting activity analysis projects in support of applied research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in dairy management or business with an agricultural background.
  • 3-5 years of experience interacting directly with dairy producers in applied dairy financial analysis, dairy business management, farm business management or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in use of computer programs such as Excel, PowerPoint and farm financial analysis software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for the Dairy Farm Business Summary and Analysis Program (DFBS).
  • Work directly with participating farms to complete annual data collection/analysis.
  • Conduct applied research data analysis.
  • Publish extension bulletins.
  • Develop educational program materials.
  • Design and implement improvements to the DFBS program.
  • Maintain and promote the DFBS program.
  • Serve as a liaison between the DFBS program and provide coordination with the program director, faculty, Pro-Dairy staff, county and regional extension educators and industry professionals.

  • Maintain the monthly dairy market watch reports.
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating discussion group programs.
  • Lead efforts to develop and assist in conducting activity analysis projects in support of applied research.
  • Work directly with dairy producers throughout the state and their advisors.
