About The Position

The Extension Program Specialist will provide leadership to planning and implementation of educational outreach programs in support of county-based staff. Prepare subject matter training and educational resource materials to address needs of limited resource clientele. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding. The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in applicable field.
  • Five or more years of related professional experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance and develop subject matter training, resources, and publications in support of county staff and Extension customers to achieve strategic goals and outcomes (including but not limited to individual and team program plans, College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources strategic imperatives, National Family & Community Health program goals, and federal National Institute of Food & Agriculture goals).
  • Researches, interprets, and/or disseminates relevant educational information from creditable sources through the development of outreach teaching tools to assist county staff and Extension customers (i.e. reports, blogs, extension website, articles, publications, fact sheets, multi-media presentations, curriculum, and other mass media outlets).
  • Utilizes effective adult learning and group teaching methods for county staff and customers.
  • Seeks resource support for programming focused on and maintain professional expertise in parenting, money management, bullying, life skills and other essential emerging issues.
  • Submits timely program impact and other programmatic reports; Identifies and compiles impact data for unit, state, and federal reports.
  • Contributes to unit staff and grant reports, monthly state reporting system.
  • Builds and maintain relationships with industry and other granting agencies to aid in developing grant proposals to support educational programming.
  • Provides leadership within the program area and discipline to advance organizational goals.
  • Strategizes with Program Leader to proactively determine training needs, and plan and implement faculty/staff trainings, in coordination with appropriate extension leadership and other Extension Specialists.
  • Participates in relevant professional development associations, conferences, and meetings at the state level as attendee and/or speaker to stay abreast of changes and new ideas/innovations; Represents PVAMU CEP and FCH unit by serving on committees or serving as a speaker for area of specialization with recognized organizations or at statewide and national committees/conferences.
  • Participates in required events within the unit/department, and represents PVAMU CEP Program at by serving on committees for Family and Consumer Sciences at a statewide and/or national level.
  • Adheres to all relevant policies and procedures on multiple levels (i.e. national, state, university, college, department, and unit) and provides updates/recommendations to help maintain compliance.
  • Supervises undergraduate or graduate student employee or grant personnel staff on external grants in which a Principal Investigator title is held.
  • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities and committees and performs other duties as assigned.
