About The Position

Responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive non-formal, experiential educational program in the area of positive youth development (4-H). The Extension Agent serves as a member of the county team to determine effective programming priorities and delivery methods for the community. This position is based in Raymond, MS at the Hinds County Extension Office. The 4-H Youth Development Agent is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs that support positive youth development in Hinds County, Mississippi. This includes leading the local 4-H program, supporting youth enrichment opportunities, engaging volunteers, and building community partnerships. The agent will work collaboratively with the County Extension Coordinator, Regional specialists, the Center for 4-H Youth Development, and other Extension staff to meet local needs through high-quality, research-based programming.

Requirements

  • Earned bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Youth Development, Family and Consumer Science, or a field of study determined by the Extension Service to be closely related, from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Establish and maintain permanent residence in Hinds County or closely adjacent Mississippi county within six (6) months of employment unless otherwise approved by the Extension Director and the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background screen.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess community needs in consultation with the County Extension Coordinator and statewide program teams. Develop an annual plan of work with measurable goals and priorities that reflect these needs. Implement and evaluate programs to ensure relevance, quality, and impact.
  • Plan and deliver 4-H youth development programs, including clubs, camps, afterschool initiatives, contests, and special interest projects. Support existing 4-H clubs and lead efforts to grow and strengthen participation in Hinds County 4-H.
  • Identify, recruit, and train local volunteer leaders, ensuring they are equipped to effectively support clubs, events, and committees. Maintain compliance with safety policies for programs involving minors.
  • Work closely with the County Extension Coordinator and fellow agents in the region to deliver responsive, coordinated programming. Build strong relationships with schools, community groups, and stakeholders. Support Central Region 4-H programs hosted in Winston County and contribute to regional Extension initiatives.
  • Participate in county data collection and reporting, including annual accountability reports to stakeholders. Demonstrate sensitivity to key social, economic, and public issues in programming efforts.
  • Actively engage in local and state professional and civic organizations. Maintain awareness of regulatory, educational, and service organizations aligned with Extension’s mission.
