About The Position

This position assists with the operation of the after school enrichment program, focusing on financial, communication, compliance, health, and safety aspects. The assistant is responsible for children after school when the coordinator may not be on campus. All functions are performed in adherence to current state laws, state board rules, and school board policy. This role supports the Extended Day Coordinator and is not intended to be responsible for the program's overall management. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • A minimum of two (2) years related experience working in a child care, recreational, teaching, or similar program which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working with children.
  • Must possess and maintain a current CPR and First Aid Certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment within this position.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner, representing OCPS positively.
  • Assists the coordinator with phone calls, emails, and newsletters related to the program's operation.
  • Communicates with parents, the site principal, and school personnel using effective written and verbal communication.
  • Assumes the role of the verifier when the coordinator processes weekly tuition payments, prepares bank deposits, and completes paperwork in accordance with OCPS policy.
  • Accurately records student attendance for morning and afternoon programs using the Extended Day computer software.
  • Oversees student pick-up and parent pin-out process on the computer.
  • Follows OCPS policy regarding releasing students to authorized persons.
  • Possesses knowledge of functions necessary to manage the Extended Day office in the coordinator's absence.
  • Attends and participates in Extended Day district trainings with the program coordinator.
  • Assists hourly extended day after-school personnel and helps group leaders create activities for their weekly schedules.
  • Supports staff activities that provide appropriate experiences designed to meet the physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of children after school.
  • Takes immediate action in situations involving the safety and well-being of students, following OCPS standard procedures.
  • Is accountable for health and safety decisions for all children when the program coordinator may not be on campus.
  • Maintains current CPR/First Aid/ and Medication certification.
  • Dispenses medication to children as needed.
  • Maintains a medication log and complies with OCPS policy.
  • Provides assistance with fire and severe weather drills during Extended Day hours to ensure child safety and compliance with state and OCPS policies.
  • Exercises good judgment to make decisions and takes responsibility for them.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems.
  • Aids with the maintenance and availability of materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Responsible for after-school snack distribution and any required record keeping.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs.
  • Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department activities, which may include a laminator, copy machine, or fax.
  • Responsible for keeping up-to-date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS.
  • Attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in the current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
  • Performs related duties as directed.
