About The Position

The Extended Day and Camp Instructor is responsible for providing a safe, joyful and developmentally appropriate program for all participants and their families. They will facilitate and lead experiences designed to fulfill student’s potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The Extended Day and Camp Instructor will be responsible for designing, implementing, and teaching appropriate learning activities and experiences. They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant federal, territorial and municipal legislation and policies. The Extended Day and Camp Instructor will be respectful of all children and parents/guardians and ensure that equipment and facilities are clean, safe and well maintained.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old by September 1st, 2026
  • Exemplar interpersonal skills
  • Pediatric CPR certification required or obtained during onboarding
  • Current Lifescan and pass the licensing requirement with government authorities.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks with enthusiasm, handling changing priorities and practicing dynamic thinking including rapid decision making
  • Ability to complete all pre-program tasks, including background checks, state-mandated certifications, electronic onboarding paperwork, and online training prior to the start of program

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma (or GED) preferred, but not required
  • College coursework in Education or Child Development preferred, but not required
  • Work experience in a school, camp, or childcare preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual in English and another language is beneficial, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, facilitate and contribute to developmentally and culturally appropriate programs for elementary school aged children, infused with joy.
  • Plan and implement daily lesson and activity plans and run age appropriate projects
  • Prepare and organize project materials in collaboration with supervisors and staff
  • Facilitate connection time with assigned participants through group activities, games, and more
  • Ensure that the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children in the program are met and maintained
  • Establish routines and provide positive guidance for all program participants, inclusive of a range of skills, abilities and/or age
  • Participate fully and enthusiastically in all program program activities, both on and off campus, during project time and active play, indoors and outdoors
  • Provide both group and individual support to children across diverse age groups, ability levels, and support needs
  • Supervise all Extended Day and Camp program participants to ensure their health and safety at all times and locations of the program day:
  • Partner with fellow staff to implement and follow through on all student management frameworks, including but not limited to discipline, restorative justice and positive reinforcement
  • Be familiar with and consistently implement all health, safety and emergency procedures
  • Continually assess and support participant engagement by monitoring group dynamics, as well as the needs of individual children
  • Supervise and lead participants to ensure safety at all times during group settings, such as ceremonies, all-program activities, recess, snack and lunch
  • Practice clear and effective communication with all program participants, including camp and extended day participants, staff, and members of the community:
  • Maintain a collaborative, professional and positive relationship with all members of the staff
  • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with vendors or other members of the community when representing the Kids Connection program on and off campus
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with fellow staff as well as leadership
  • Provide exemplary customer service to each child, family, and guardian at all times:
  • Enthusiastically greet all children and guardians ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all
  • Follow all check-in/check-out procedures to ensure efficiency and accurate daily attendance
  • Communicate with families as needed about their child’s experience
  • Support school operations
  • Provide lunch time supervision, ensuring the safety of all students
  • Organize and distribute ChoiceLunch meals to participating students
  • Support and assist with extended day program pick-ups for non-KC students, including transporting students to KC from other school sites (walking or by school vehicle)
  • Support front desk operations when needed by answering phone calls, following check-in/check out procedures, in person questions and requests and providing first aid as needed
  • Support with general administrative and school maintenance tasks as needed, such as moving or rearranging supplies and furniture.
  • Attend and assist with KC events including but not limited to Friday Fun Night, Spring Picnic, Halloween Carnival, Summer Days, and other school events
  • Set up and clean up small group activities and lessons
  • Review curriculum in advance to prepare to facilitate lessons
  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
  • Organize and distribute snack and lunch, ensuring all food areas are hygienic and cleaned before and after food distribution.
  • Provide first aid to program participants as needed
  • Maintain accident and incident reports
  • Attend all staff meetings and training as scheduled by the Director of Extended Day and Camps
  • Clean staff kitchen after use
  • Refrain from using personal cell phone and other devices while on duty
