About The Position

The LR Advisory group is seeking a qualified Engineer in compressible flows and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to join our experienced Explosion and Fluid Dynamics Team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our Canadian advisory team is an established engineering research and consulting group specializing in the development and application of advanced engineering solutions for clients in the marine, public safety, and defense sectors. Formerly operating as Martec Limited, the company has been in business since 1973. Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in compressible fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and chemistry
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and application of CFD models to real-world problems.
  • Experience in computer programming for CFD code development
  • Have a minimum of a Master’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace)
  • Be eligible for Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate
  • Engage fully in our safety management system to support safe working conditions for yourself, your teammates, our clients, and the community

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated expertise in explosion/shock/blast physics (or a related area)
  • Demonstrated experience in structural response to highly dynamic loadings
  • Experience in using LS-DYNA or comparable fluid structure interaction (FSI) or finite element analysis (FEA) tools
  • Experience in using Star CCM+ or comparable CFD tools
  • Experience in machine learning (ML) algorithms and application of ML models.
  • Experience in the marine industry and ship hydrodynamics
  • Working knowledge of Linux OS and experience in parallel/scientific computing
  • Prior experience working in consulting and research organizations

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of skilled engineers delivering innovative solutions to a range of client challenges, particularly in the areas of public safety, industry, and defence
  • Provide consultancy services in areas relating to explosive blast, reactive flows, compressible-flow computational fluid dynamics, and structural response to blast, and enable these services through development and application of models to be used in specialized in-house software tools
  • Develop and maintain specialized in-house software tools using agreed upon coding standards and associated processes
  • Contribute to, and prepare, technical reports and scientific publications
  • Provide clear and concise communication with clients and internal/external stakeholders
  • Build relationships with internal and external clients, be directly involved in assessing complex problems, and help build the business
  • Participate in proposal development and provide estimates for own time
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering both on professional and company goals and targets, without requiring significant supervision
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development while maintaining a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Be responsible for own development, seeking opportunities for self-development
  • Maintain registration as an Engineer-in-Training or Registered/Licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia or other Canadian professional engineering association
