About The Position

As an expert in the Horticulture programme, you bring technical knowledge of crop production and an understanding of business realities faced by small and medium sized horticulture companies in challenging and rapidly changing markets. You recognize both the innovative potential of horticulture, including fruit, vegetables and floriculture, and the pressures related to rising costs, stricter regulations and climate change. This is an opportunity to drive change within the Horticulture programme worldwide and make a real impact. PUM is a unique NGO committed to making a positive impact on a global scale. With a network of 1,200 skilled voluntary experts, PUM collaborates with ambitious entrepreneurs in 26 countries and 12 programmes, sharing expertise to strengthen business ecosystems and create economic, social, and environmental value. PUM works closely with small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the organizations that support them.

Requirements

  • Track record of relevant experience in horticulture, with hands-on expertise in crop production and crop-specific knowledge.
  • Expertise in one of the following areas: Tissue culture; Open field vegetables production such as leafy greens, cabbage, beans, carrots, etc. (production, post-harvest aspects, processing); Soft fruit such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries (production, post-harvest aspects); Nursery fruit trees (temperate and tropical fruit crops).
  • Appreciate cultural differences and interact with equality and respect.
  • Eager to operate as a sparring partner in culturally diverse and changing circumstances.
  • Hands-on and can translate knowledge into a practical plan.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Comfortable with digital tools, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Voluntary position.
  • Can apply up to and including the calendar year in which you turn 69.
  • Reside in the Netherlands, registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP), and have Dutch basic health insurance.
  • Prescreening (VOG) is part of the selection process.
