About The Position

Battelle's Cyber Trust and Analytics division is seeking an Experimental Quantum Scientist/Researcher to work in our Columbus, Ohio location. Battelle has been trusted by elite government clients to solve some of the world’s hardest security problems. We work in small agile teams to push the bounds of computing technology. Our high-powered labs include specialized software and hardware, so our engineers have everything they need to invent new Cyber solutions. As a quantum scientist at Battelle, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills, solving hard problems that arise at the intersection of physical hardware and software systems. Daily activities include setting up optics experiments, alignment of systems, working with engineers and mathematicians on the bleeding edge of technology to make the next breakthrough in quantum technology.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Have experience with superconducting, semiconducting, or related quantum technologies.
  • Have research, accomplishments, and publications in the field of quantum, quantum information science, solid state physics, or closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing in Python, C/C++, R, Matlab, Fortran, Verilog, VHDL or another computational language.
  • Experience solving complex problems.
  • Excitement about learning new technical subject areas and curiosity about cyber security problems.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
  • Have hands-on experimental experience with solid-state qubit design, RF control, or quantum measurements
  • Have knowledge and experience with implementing quantum noise characterization and error protection techniques in the lab
  • Are experienced with test equipment control and data analysis
  • Experience working closely with theorists.
  • Experience with developing and/or implementing schemes for quantum error correction.
  • Experience modeling multi-level, multi-qubit, and/or light-matter interactions.
  • A track record of significant contributions on collaborative projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives.
  • Experience with quantum hardware design and fabrication
  • Experience developing, testing, troubleshooting, and fielding quantum devices, sensors or other closely related devices.
  • Biased toward quantum sensing and communications, but highly qualified quantum computing professionals will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Propose and lead independent research projects focusing on novel quantum devices, materials, hardware, controls, or characterization techniques applied to cyber and semiconductor problems.
  • Support the latest team’s research and development programs
  • Work closely with cyber security experts and engineers to develop effective data solutions
  • Conduct and / or participate in assigned technical tasks and activities with minimum supervision and within time and budget constraints
  • Work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Effectively communicate ideas with other scientists and engineers
  • Work with minimal supervision
