Experimental Machinist Level 3 - 2nd Shift

PCC Talent Acquisition Portal•Irvine, CA

About The Position

Under minimal supervision, the Experimental Machinist fabricates prototype components and assemblies from initial design through full production, using formal and informal blueprints. The role requires coordinating complicated setups and operating CNC and manual lathes as well as standard machine-shop equipment. The machinist interprets complex manufacturing drawings, selects processes and tools, and applies advanced knowledge of materials and machine sequences of operation. The position also coordinates with outside vendors for processing such as heat treating and plating, mentors and trains operators and assemblers, and develops manufacturing processes that become standard operating procedures. This is a second-shift position, scheduled from 2:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Applicants must have CNC lathe and mill experience, knowledge of shop practices, blueprint interpretation skills, and the ability to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments. The role also involves reading and writing manufacturing documentation, applying technical mathematics, and meeting the physical and workplace demands described in the posting.

Requirements

  • Six to eight years minimum of CNC lathe operation and setup experience.
  • At least five years of CNC lathe and mill experience.
  • Knowledge of Y14.5 blueprint interpretation.
  • Knowledge of machine sequences of operation and their application to setup, layout, and tool selection.
  • Tool design experience.
  • Knowledge of standard shop practices and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to demonstrate use of hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine data on manufacturing routers and SPC charts.
  • Ability to apply technical mathematics, including trigonometry and geometry, to standard manufacturing problems and basic calculations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and think on one's feet.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation.
