About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space & Security is looking for an Experienced Structures Mechanic to join our F/A-18 team in San Antonio, TX. This role involves working with little to no supervision, assisting, mentoring, and leading lower-level mechanics. The mechanic will perform close tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures and fracture-critical areas. They will also be responsible for sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structures according to standard repair processes. The position requires the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specifications, and retrofit requirements for structural modifications/repairs. Proficiency in using tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot-level modification and repair, along with detailed knowledge of aircraft-specific tools, is essential. The mechanic will access aircraft data via computer systems, initiate online parts and discrepancy requests, and maintain necessary certifications. Physical requirements include ascending/descending vertical ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting approximately 35 pounds. The role may require working various shifts, including weekends and holidays, with potential for scheduled and unscheduled overtime. Familiarity with Hazardous Energy and Lock Out/Tag systems is necessary for ensuring a safe working environment. The mechanic will also assist other team members to meet cost and schedule targets and must pass an assessment during the training cycle.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience working with non-porous metals, such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless
  • 7+ years of experience working with schematics, specifications, assembly drawings and standard operating procedures
  • 7+ years of experience using structures hand tools such as: drills 45 and 90 degrees, pancake adapters, counter sink cages, hole finders, and rivet guns
  • 6+ years of experience working heavy structures: locating, drilling, countersinking and fastening structures (i.e.. doublers, stringers, webs, seat tracks, etc.) to aircraft
  • Ability to work variable shifts (i.e. scheduled and unscheduled overtime; weekends and holidays) to support mission requirements
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. To meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Responsibilities

  • Works with little to no supervision

  • Ability and understanding of locating blind holes necessary for installation of new structural items to existing structure
  • Perform efforts associated with sealing, painting, shimming, and preserving structure in accordance with standard repair processes
  • Demonstrate the capability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, process specification, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modification/repair
  • Experienced in the use of tooling assemblies and fixtures for depot level modification and repair of structural parts
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required
  • Mechanic will be required to access aircraft data via computer systems and initiate on-line parts and discrepancy requests
  • Maintain necessary certifications, licenses and permits as required for assigned work
  • Must be able to ascend and descend vertical work ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift loads of approximately 35 pounds
  • Must be able to work various shifts and/or an alternate baseline schedule that may frequently change to support mission requirements and may include weekends and holidays.
  • Mission requirements and/or workload may require both scheduled and unscheduled overtime
  • Must be familiar with Hazardous Energy and Lock Out /Tag systems applications to ensure working environment is deemed safe for access and job task performance
  • Will be required to assist other team members (General Mechanics, Avionics, Electrics) in order to ensure cost/schedule targets are met
  • This position requires the ability to pass an assessment during the training cycle.
