About The Position

The Boeing Company's Global Services (BGS) Post-Production Modifications Support is seeking an Experienced Structural & Payload Design Engineer (Payload Systems Design) to support modification projects for Product Lines including Interiors, Connectivity/VIP, Avionics, Airplane Performance and Systems (AP&S), and Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF). This role will support all models from McDonnell Douglas (MD) heritage series airplanes to the latest Boeing 777X aircraft. The successful candidate will apply advanced knowledge of Boeing design and engineering principles to develop engineering solutions for product/process issues encountered during production or for technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer. Responsibilities include analyzing issues, conducting failure analysis, troubleshooting to understand root causes, and assisting in identifying solutions. The candidate will also provide written documentation and dispositions for Installation Deviation Records (IDRs) to support customer on-site modifications and ensure supplier and build partner compliance with Boeing standards, representing the engineering community in the post-production modification environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R.§120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • Experience in Model Based Definition, CATIA, ENOVIA and PDM

  • Knowledge of the aircraft certification process

Responsibilities

  • Provide Home support as Liaison or Design Engineer functions for ongoing modifications for all BGS Mods Product Lines: Interiors, Connectivity/VIP, Avionics/AP&S, and BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter)
  • Provide on-site modification support as Liaison or Design Engineer functions (when BCA or BGS core support is unavailable)
  • Write, coordinate, and disposition IDRs (Installation Deviation Record) for Airplane Modifications
  • Review and respond to Service Requests (SR) from Airline Customers in the Modifications Support queue of Boeing Communication System (BCS)
  • Applies knowledge of Boeing design principles to assess and resolve product/process issues through the product lifecycle
  • Applies engineering principles to research technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the Customer and designs interim and final engineering solutions
  • Identifies, documents, and analyzes reported problems and communicates deviations that could impact design intent and safety; recommends and manages resolution
  • Analyze and conduct root cause analysis while developing dispositions for design nonconformances
  • Develops and implements product/process improvements
  • Supports Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and participates in design reviews
  • Close coordination and teaming with other internal and external Engineering teams
  • Represents the engineering community in the build through post-production environment
