St. Peter's provides comprehensive Maternal/Child services, delivering over 2700 babies a year. The program supports the largest number of deliveries in the Capital region, many of which are high-risk pregnancies and multiple births. The family centered team includes physicians, licensed nurse midwives, dedicated perinatal nurses, social work and spiritual care services, skilled techs, and lactation consultants. Nurses will have the opportunity to work with mother and baby as a family unit. St. Peter's recognizes nursing as one of the most challenging and rewarding careers and works with nurses to ensure their professional experiences meet their expectations. Nurses working in the Mother/Baby unit receive support through a comprehensive orientation developed by a clinical nurse specialist in maternal/child nursing, on-site BLS and neonatal resuscitation classes, and ongoing clinical education. The staff is highly involved in quality improvement activities, program development, recognition activities, and team building. A clinical ladder program offers opportunities for professional growth through mentoring, leadership, and generous educational funding.
