Experienced Police Officer
About The Position
The Prince George's County Police Department is seeking experienced police officer (EPO) candidates for the Comparative Compliance EPO Academy. This academy is for non-Maryland certified experienced police officers, including those from federal and out-of-state jurisdictions with at least one year of service. Candidates must meet Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission requirements for approved entrance level training, and the department will submit waiver requests. Candidates must be currently certified by a recognized agency and have at least one year of full-time patrol experience.
Requirements
- Currently certified as a Police Officer with a recognized agency with a minimum of 12 months patrol experience
- Past or current experience must be in enforcing state and local criminal laws and ordinances
- Past or current experience must be in enforcing state and local traffic laws and ordinances
- Past or current experience must include making physical arrests
- Past or current experience must include investigating traffic accidents
- Past or current experience must include operating an emergency vehicle
- Past or current experience must include responding to calls for service involving conflict management/mediation
- Must provide proof of Good Standing with Current Agency
- U.S. Citizen
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Successfully complete all requirements of the Background and Selection Process
- Be able to provide copies of all Entrance Level and In Service Training to include Course Content/Description and total hours per course
- Be able to provide copies of Disciplinary Records (Internal Affairs Check)
- Request a Letter of Good Standing from Current Agency
- All male U.S. citizens, and male naturalized citizens living in the U.S., who are 18 and over are required to register with Selective Service.

Responsibilities
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws to protect life and property
- Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and ensure public safety
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Investigate crimes by collecting evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses
- Prepare accurate reports and maintain detailed records
- Make arrests and issue citations when appropriate
- Enforce traffic laws and respond to traffic accidents
- Provide assistance and support to individuals in crisis situations
- Engage with the community to build trust and promote crime prevention
- Testify in court and work with prosecutors and other justice partners
- Uphold departmental policies, ethical standards, and professional conduct
