About The Position

This role will be based in Cincinnati, OH and will work a Flex/Hybrid schedule. Relocation assistance may be available on a case-by-case basis and if approved by the business. Purpose: Deliver proven, research-based mechanical engineering solutions that advance new product development and improve existing products and processes. Support the R&D Mechanical Engineering team as a productive individual contributor across all stages of the product lifecycle, applying practical engineering skills and scientific methods to meet product and customer specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in R&D mechanical engineering, product development, or manufacturing engineering
  • Strong hands‑on experience with CAD and mechanical design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and detailed design practices (materials, tolerancing, GD&T).
  • Experience developing and qualifying metal and molded components and their manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing testing, verification, and validation activities, including working with external test labs and suppliers.
  • Solid understanding of design for manufacturability, process stability, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present technical status and escalate needs effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to collaborate across cross‑functional teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with DFMEA, DOE, statistical analysis tools, and CI/CD tools for engineering documentation.
  • Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading technical workstreams.
  • Familiarity with regulatory or quality systems relevant to medical device or regulated product development.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, analysis, and hands‑on engineering work within larger R&D activities to support NPD and lifecycle projects.
  • Identify robust, functional, and cost‑effective concepts, designs, and details for machines, tools, fixtures, and products (metal and molded components).
  • Plan, develop, qualify, and stabilize component development and manufacturing process solutions for NPD projects.
  • Develop and implement procedures, process standards, and reporting practices focused on manufacturing and scale‑up.
  • Coordinate testing, verification, and validation activities (internal and with external laboratories) to ensure conformance to product and customer specifications.
  • Prepare samples for manufacturing, testing, evaluation, and data analysis; analyze test data and iterate designs as needed.
  • Interact directly with customers and internal stakeholders to determine unmet needs and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Coordinate with outside suppliers/vendors for procurement, equipment repairs, materials, or outsourced testing.
  • Identify and implement process‑level efficiencies and opportunities for product/process improvement; contribute inventions, designs, or techniques to solve technical problems.
  • Provide weekly project status updates to R&D Mechanical Engineering leadership to surface key milestones, risks, and resource needs.
  • Coach and mentor junior colleagues on techniques, processes, and responsibilities; participate in peer reviews and knowledge‑sharing.
  • Ensure project guidelines and processes are followed and documentation is complete.
