About The Position

The Boeing Company's Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) division is seeking an experienced Avionics Hardware Engineer to serve as a subject matter expert and technical lead for Mission and Safety Computers hardware. This role encompasses the full lifecycle of hardware development, from requirements definition and system design through integration, testing, verification, production, and supplier oversight. The engineer will lead hardware supplier design teams, develop interface control documents, and perform technical problem investigations. Responsibilities also include weapon capability development and integration, supporting subsystem and system testing (including flight tests), and contributing to safety-critical functional thread analysis and airworthiness efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • 9+ years of work-related experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR 7+ years of work-related experience with a Masters OR 3+ years of work-related experience with a PhD.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • Requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Core Processing, Image/Display/Video Processing, Built-In Test Requirements, and Safety Computing.
  • Knowledge of Circuit Card Assembly design, fabrication, and verification.
  • Knowledge of avionics box interfaces – MIL-STD-1553, Serial buses, RS-170/RS-422/RS-232, hardware discrete, fiber/ethernet.
  • Knowledge of avionics quality inspection and acceptance processes.
  • Knowledge of Software Requirements, Software Environments, and Platform Operational Flight Program development.
  • Experience working closely with United States Government and aircrew.
  • Tools/application familiarity – DOORS, MSOSA/Cameo, Teamcenter, MS Office & Project, etc.
  • Knowledge of Military Standards/Handbook implementations – MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, etc.
  • Experience with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, functional diagrams.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching and leading technical projects and team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as overall subject matter expert and technical lead engineer for Mission and Safety Computers hardware.
  • Lead hardware development from requirements definition, avionics subsystem and system design, integration, subsystem/system/flight test, system verification, production/fielding, and supplier oversight.
  • Lead the hardware supplier design team in supporting all Tactical Fighters program needs.
  • Develop interface control documents describing mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces.
  • Perform technical problem investigation and resolution at subsystem, system, and platform integration levels.
  • Perform weapon capability development, implementation, and integration onto a fighter’s platform.
  • Out brief status to internal Boeing stakeholders/leadership and external customers.
  • Support subsystem testing on the Mission Systems Hardware.
  • Support system testing in ESIL and during Flight Test.
  • Support Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis efforts for the Mission Systems Hardware.
  • Support airworthiness efforts for hardware design, development, and implementation.
