This role involves serving as the lead developer for exhibit and experience projects, establishing overall development and content direction. The Experience Developer will articulate the vision, goals, and methods for specific visitor experiences, determining appropriate mix, pacing, and layering, and providing clear direction to team members. This position also involves collaborating with Project Leaders and Museum Experience Directors on budget creation, timelines, and staffing, as well as fostering positive professional relationships with external clients. The developer will generate ideas for authentic, fun, and dramatic physical and digital experiences, conduct relevant research, write and edit text for various platforms, and coordinate with translators. A key responsibility is leading visitor testing and demonstrations of exhibit prototypes to ensure they are safe, engaging, and provide intended learning outcomes. The role also includes managing projects from conception to completion, documenting progress, and serving as a mentor to other museum staff. Team collaboration is essential, ensuring that the form of exhibits and online experiences meet project vision, goals, and deadlines. This includes supporting the Project Manager, monitoring development phases, coordinating with design and fabrication staff, working with visitors on the museum floor, collaborating with Evaluation staff on audience research, ensuring accuracy with science program directors and content experts, and reaching out to other organizations to ensure multiple perspectives are considered. Administrative duties include maintaining digital assets, proficiency in Google Workspace and project management tools, and working with department leaders on budgets.
